Fernando Marinho, respected information security professional dies

This past Thursday (18th), Fernando Marinho, a highly respected professional in the area of ​​information security, passed away. Although there are no official confirmations regarding this, everything indicates that the carioca was another victim of COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV2). His passage was announced mainly by co-workers and professionals through the social network LinkedIn.

“Speechless, a loss. A guy in love, who liked and worked hard to be right in the discussions, a guy based. Good-humored, without losing his criticism, a professional and human being who gave pleasure to his presence”, Stated Anderson Ramos, CEO of Green Helmet, co-founder of Flipside and organizer of events such as Roadsec and Mind The Sec.

In his own profile, Marinho described himself as an economist, consultant in strategic planning, specialist in IT security and business continuity, working since 1999 in such areas. The professional was respected above all for his skills in risk and crisis management, as well as its efforts to educate the market about the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and General Data Protection Law (LGPD).

His specialty in this field earned him the positions of vice president of the International Emergency Management Association for Latin America and the Caribbean (AIGELAC) and country manager of the Brazilian chapter of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). He also collaborated with the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), being a volunteer in the creation of the ISO NBR 27001 standard.

Published four books throughout his career: “How to Protect and Maintain Your Business” (Campus / Elsevier & Editora Ciência Moderna), “How to Protect and Maintain Your Business without Energy and Water – A PCN Guide” (Navy Red), “Business Continuity Plan Guide” (Editora Elsevier) and “The Ten Commandments of LGPD” (Editora Gen / Atlas), recently launched in September 2020.
