John McAfee is found dead in prison in Spain

The entrepreneur and pioneer in information security, John McAfee, founder of the eponymous antivirus solution, was found dead on Wednesday (23) in his Brians 2 prison cell where he was held in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Barcelona (Spain). The information comes from the local newspaper El País, which claims that McAfee was found dead and that primary investigations indicate suicide. The entrepreneur was 75 years old.

McAfee was detained in the European country in October 2020 as he prepared to board a plane to Turkey, accused of evading taxes on his cryptocurrency transactions. Earlier this Wednesday, the Spanish High Court had agreed to extradite him to the US, where he would answer for his crimes. In addition to tax evasion, he also responded to a lawsuit on US soil for participating in a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme.

According to El País, “professionals from the prison surveillance, who found him dead in his cell, as well as the prison’s medical services, intervened to carry out resuscitation maneuvers”, but they were unsuccessful. The Hack will continue to follow the case.
