SAP Enhances Joule AI to Lead the Business AI Landscape

SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) today announced groundbreaking innovations in artificial intelligence (AI) built on a technology infrastructure that powers 87 percent of global commerce, placing its generative AI, Joule, at the center of a new way of doing business.

At its annual SAP TechEd conference, SAP introduced additional capabilities that extend and strengthen Joule, including collaborative AI agents with customized skills to perform complex and interdisciplinary tasks.

Among the innovations was the SAP Knowledge Graph, a next-generation solution that enables developers to extract maximum value from SAP data by connecting it to rich business context.

In addition, new tools were introduced to ensure that developers continue to drive innovation in enterprise AI.

“SAP is the world’s trusted partner in innovation to drive real results. Today’s advances enable our customers to harness the power of AI and data to accelerate growth,” said Muhammad Alam, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE and product engineer at SAP. “We are creating a new partnership between humans and AI that will transform the modern business environment.”

Powering Joule AI

As Joule approaches its first year, SAP is launching new capabilities that expand its reach, supporting 80 percent of the most common business tasks on the platform.

Multi-agent collaboration systems will integrate specialized AI agents to solve specific tasks, fostering collaboration across complex workflows and enabling organizations to increase productivity by eliminating silos.

Two out-of-the-box applications showcased at TechEd highlight the transformative power of these agents:

  • A dispute management case study uses autonomous AI agents to resolve disputes, such as incorrect invoices and duplicate payments.
  • A financial accounting example uses agents to streamline processes by automating payments and accounting updates.

Harnessing the Power of Data

SAP’s AI innovations also build on the company’s expertise with enterprise data.

The new SAP Knowledge Graph solution, which will be accessible through SAP Datasphere and Joule in Q1 2025, will enable users to gain deeper insight into the business by mapping relationships and context across the entire SAP data environment.

Providing ready-made relationships between entities such as purchase orders, invoices and customers, SAP Knowledge Graph connects AI to SAP-specific business semantics, minimizing the risk of inaccurate or irrelevant results and making it easier to build intelligent applications, while also making generative AI more effective.

Enabling Developers

SAP also introduced several innovations to support developers in their continued innovation in AI. New generative AI capabilities in SAP Build will reduce Java and JavaScript development time. In addition, the platform will provide direct access from SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, streamlining processes.

SAP announced that it has already achieved its goal of skilling 2 million people worldwide by 2025. Through its learning opportunities, the company is helping to close the digital skills gap through role-based certifications, free training materials, and hands-on opportunities for developers.

SAP continues to expand its growing AI-related learning portfolio with courses on generative AI, AI ethics, and SAP’s advanced AI tools.
