The second phase of “Operation 404” of the Civil Police, fulfilled this last Thursday (05) five search and seizure warrants in the homes and businesses of telecommunication technicians suspected of diverting transmission from pay television channels, in addition to selling devices that offer such released content without authorization.
This second phase of the operation has already carried out more than 25 search and seizure warrants in about 10 Brazilian states, in addition to the suspension and blocking of 252 sites and 65 pirated streaming applications. Three of the 252 sites were taken down with the help of the American police, as they were hosted on servers in the United States.
The sites megatorrentshd.biz, comandotorrentshd.tv and bludv.tv offered “free access to copyrighted content for site visitors around the world, including recently released movies and television shows, ”explains the US police in a press release.
According to the United States Department of Justice, the website megatorrentshd.biz offered more than 1600 films, in addition to more than 330 series without authorization from the producers. Comandootorrentshd.tv, on the other hand, contained more than 1200 films and series and bludv.tv with almost 10,000 titles, all of which disregarded copyright laws.
“By taking down these domains, the police stopped the illegal reproduction and distribution of thousands of pirated television shows and movies, while cutting the profits of those responsible for exploiting the hard work of others for their own personal gain,” says Brian C Rabbitt, Deputy Attorney General for the US Department of Justice.
THE Operation 404 of the Brazilian police was coordinated by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) and involves the Civil Police of ten Brazilian states, they are: São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, Bahia, Ceará and Goiás.
The first phase of the operation, carried out in November 2019, fulfilled 30 search and seizure warrants, blocked and suspended 210 websites and 100 pirated streaming applications, in addition to the deindexation of addresses in the search engines and the cancellation of profiles and pages in social networks, informs the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
