Microsoft earns $10 billion in cyber, grows 40% in 2020

Revenue from the global cybersecurity business is expected to reach $ 60.2 billion in 2021, representing growth of around 10% over last year. Even in the most pessimistic hypothesis, it will grow 6.6% according to an analysis by the North American consultancy Canalys. But among the players that will stand out, one will certainly be Microsoft, which yesterday announced that it had exceeded $ 10 billion in revenue from its cybersecurity business during 2020, with 40% growth over the year 2019.

Microsoft’s numbers were announced yesterday by the company’s corporate VP for security, compliance and identity, executive Vasu Jakkal. According to her, the results of the security, compliance, identity and management businesses represent “a testament to the trust that our customers have placed in us”.

Now, said the executive, “what motivates us is the creation of a true zero trust mentality, which we believe to be the cornerstone of effective protection, the basis for organizational resilience and the future of security”.

In the statement on the results, Vasu Jakkal highlighted Microsoft’s presence in various technologies, providing the company “with a unique position to think holistically about the main aspects of security: from identity and access management; through endpoint, email and application security; for data loss prevention and cloud and SIEM security. We have an approach that is truly end-to-end, and it’s remarkable how deeply rooted it is in our culture. Microsoft’s security organization is an intense and massive collaboration that drives services, intelligence, technologies and people – all brought together as a single machine with a unique mission ”.

In the global market, according to the Canalys report, the 2021 billing will come mainly from protection of endpoints, networks, e-mails and data, as well as risk analysis and access management.
