ANPD to investigate data leakage from telephone operators

 

The National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) issued a statement on Thursday, 11, to say that it is technically investigating information about the incident involving the leakage of personal data from cell phone users of operators Claro and Vivo.

According to the note, “ANPD is taking all appropriate measures and said that it has officiated other bodies, such as the Federal Police, the company that reported the fact and the companies involved, to investigate and assist in the investigation and adoption of containment measures and mitigation of risks related to the personal data of the possible affected ”.

The ANPD ends the statement saying that “it will act diligently in relation to possible violations of Law 13.709 / 2018 (General Law for the Protection of Personal Data – LGPD), and will promote, with the other competent bodies, the accountability and punishment of those involved ”.

On Wednesday, 11, it was reported that a new data leak on the internet may have exposed more than 102 million cell phone accounts this month, according to dfndr entreprise, PSafe’s corporate data protection solution. According to the cybersecurity company, among the leaked information are the name of the telephone line subscriber and the cell phone number, including that of President Jair Bolsonaro.

The hacker claimed to have information on 57.2 million Vivo phone accounts and 45.6 million Claro accounts. However, PSafe said it was not possible to confirm the cybercriminal’s claim and made himself available to collaborate in investigations that lead to the identification of those responsible.
